The Opening Program of the Symposium "Victory of Malazgirt" was completed on its 950th anniversary.

An international symposium called “Malazgirt Victory” was held in memory of the 950th Anniversary of the Malazgirt Victory. In the symposium, the current outputs of the history, determination and area of Malazgirt Battlefield and other studies related to Malazgirt Victory was shared with the interested parties.

 

The International Symposium of “Malazgirt Victory” which was organized to commemorate the 950th Anniversary of the Malazgirt Victory was held in the conference hall of the Malazgirt Credit and Dormitories Institution. Four sessions were held on the first day of the program, which started at 09.30 on Tuesday, August 23.

 

The symposium started with the speeches of Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik the project coordinator; Cengiz Altın the Mayor of Malazgirt; Yahya Coşkun Deputy General Director of Cultural Heritage and Museums;  Prof. Dr. Birol Çetin the President of Turkish Historical Society by proxy Dr. Tülay Metin; Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat the Rector of Muş Alparslan University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Gündüzöz the Governor of Muş. After greeting the protocol, speakers and audience in his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat talked about the importance of the Malazgirt Victory and the aims and value of the International Malazgirt Victory Symposium on its 950th anniversary. After the opening speeches, the presentations of the studies were started.

 

After listening to the opening session, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat went to Ahlat to attend the opening program of the 950th anniversary of the Malazgirt Victory. After attending the opening program in Ahlat, he came back to Malazgirt and followed the symposium sessions.

 

In the first session chaired by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tellioğlu, three presenters presented their studies. Prof. Dr. Gülay Öğün Bezer presented her study titled '‘Oguz/Turkmen Raids and Seljuks on the Way to Malazgirt’, secondly, Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik presented his study titled 'Some Evaluations on the Battlefield of Malazgirt' and lastly, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican presented his study titled 'The solstice of the history: Malazgirt Victory'.

 

In the second session which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Gülay Öğün Bezer, four presenters presented their studies. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Kağan Kadıoğlu presented his study titled 'Geology of Malazgirt and its Surroundings'. Secondly, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Ceylan presented his study titled 'Geographical Features of the Environment of Malazgirt and its Effects on the Battle of Malazgirt'. Thirdly,  Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Köroğlu presented his study titled 'Malazgirt and its Surroundings in Ancient Times' and finally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanifi Biber informed the audience about his study titled 'Archaeological research in Malazgirt and its surroundings'.

 

In the third session of the symposium which was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Gürbüz, four presenters presented the findings of their studies. Asst. Prof. Dr. Süha Konuk presented his study titled 'Byzantine's Eastern Frontier and Malazgirt'. Then, Asst. Prof. Dr. İlhami Tekin Cinemre presented his study titled '"Manazkent, the City of Manaz: The Narrative of Malazgirt in Ancient Armenian Literature'. Thirdly, Dr. Kazım Uzun presented his study titled '"Malazgirt and its Surroundings according to Islamic Geographers'. Lastly, Dr. İbrahim Güneş shared his findings of the study titled 'An Arab Dynasty in Malazgirt: Arabs of Qays (772-964) with the audience.

 

In the last session of the first day of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Çaycı chaired the session. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Keçiş presented his study titled "A General on the Road to the Empire: Romanos Diogenes", then Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Eskikurt presented his study titled 'A General Evaluation on the Routes used by Romanos Diogenes IV in the Anatolian Campaigns (1068, 1069 and 1071)', lastly, Res. Asst. Hüseyin Karaçam presented his study titled 'Sultan Alparslan in Muslim Tradition/Biography Books" and closed the first day with his presentation.


After the sessions conducted, a dinner was organized for the participants. Rector Polat received information about the progress of the Malazgirt Battlefield History, Determination and Surface Research project at the dinner where he met with the academicians attending the symposium.
