The International Universities Council, of which our university is a member, successfully conducted the international workshop titled "Global Migration and Refugee Problem" hosted by Gazi University.
An important international problem of today was discussed in the organization, which was followed by the rector of Gazi University which hosted the organization and many rectors from the country and especially from abroad, held under the presidency of the Founding Chairman of the Council Orhan Hikmet Azizoğlu.
After the opening speeches, rectors from different countries were divided into 3 groups and expressed their views on the problems of migration and refugees in their own regions. Then, the heads of the three groups with speakers from each country; Law Commission President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bilgin, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Enver Dezaye from Iraq and Prof. Dr. Hamid Fahmy from Indonesia summarized the opinions of the groups in the evaluation session.
The workshop was concluded with the final declaration read by the Founding President Orhan Hikmet Azizoğlu. The following points were included in the Final Declaration.
- Migration; should be addressed by all council member universities, especially its social, cultural and environmental effects.
- Today, many different types of migration have emerged. Member universities should introduce new definitions that classify these different types of migration. In this context, joint master's and doctoral studies should be carried out with member universities.
- The socio-economic and cultural problems of Islamic countries caused by immigration cause traditional corruption and loss of youth and family.
- Emphasis should be placed on supporting immigrant undergraduate students in all countries through the council.
- The fund allocated for immigrants in the United Nations is insufficient and an unfair way is followed in its distribution. In this sense, the International Universities Council should take the necessary steps at the international level.
- Likewise, a fund should be established under the Islamic Development Bank and the Organization of Cooperation and Islamic countries should contribute to this fund.
- An international journal on migration and refugee issues should be published by one of the member universities of the International Universities Council.
- The academics to be determined by the rectors of the member universities of the Council should submit their comprehensive scientific articles on this issue to the Council Presidency by the date notified to them.
