The Book of Endemic Plants of Muş Province has been Published
The Book of Endemic Plants of Muş Province, prepared with the data of the Muş Province Endemic Plants Project, which was initiated as a guided project by Rector Prof. Fethi Ahmet Polat in 2019, has been published.
The Muş Province Endemic Plants Project, which was initiated by our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat and lasted for approximately 5 years, has been completed, and the data obtained have been published under the name of the Book of Endemic Plants of Muş Province. The project was conducted under the supervision of the Director of the Muş Tulip Application and Research Center, Assist. Prof. Ahmet Yenikalaycı, and advised by the Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Yaşar Karadağ. Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Karaman, Assist. Prof. Mahir Özkurt, Res. Assist. Yasir Tufan, Res. Assist. Ayşe Nida Kurt, Gendarmerie Noncommissioned Officer Biologist Mustafa Kahya, and Prof. Ahmet İlçim from the Department of Biology of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Faculty of Arts and Sciences also participated in the project. With the project, the flora, dominant species, and problems of Muş province were identified. At the end of the study, the herbaria of the collected plants were made, and they were protected for ex-situ studies in the university's variety garden.
As a result of the Muş Province Endemic Plants Project, 94 taxa that grow within the boundaries of Muş province were identified. In the prepared book, the Latin and Turkish names, families, botanical characteristics, usage areas, and the provinces where these taxa are found are mentioned. The book aims to reveal and introduce the endemic plant treasure of Muş Province, to draw attention to possible pressures and dangers on these plants. The book, which aims to create awareness among citizens, is an important source for the people of Muş and researchers and scientists who will work on this subject.
