Our Şahi (Shahi) Rocket Is Ready to Launch

All tests of the rocket called Şahi (Shahi), which was developed by our University’s rocket team, within the scope of the project titled “Design and Manufacturing of a Model Rocket” supported by the Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (DAKA) were completed. Our university’s rocket is ready to be launched.

Prof. Dr. Ulas Caydas and team captain Volkan Akgol, who supervised the project, paid a visit to our Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat in his office and informed him about the rocket. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Caydas stated the following statements regarding the building stages of the rocket: “The circuit board designs of the rocket’s main and spare flight computers were prepared by simulating in a computer environment. Microcontroller algorithms were prepared and loaded with their own interface programs. All circuits were produced in a physical environment by completing the printed circuit drawings. In order to test the circuits prior to the final production, temporary circuits were created with perforated pertinax and special slots, where sensors and microcontrollers can be used in a plug-and-play manner, and tests were completed. In the final production stage, an electronic circuit board manufacturer company has made the most ideal circuit board in the size that it will be placed inside the rocket and in which all the components of the circuit and conductive paths are properly placed”.

“All Tests were Meticulously Performed”

Caydas also gave some details about the rocket’s exterior design. “The avionics system is manufactured in oval-shaped and folded to balance the whole system’s center of gravity. Thus, both the circuit board is affected by vibrations and the static of entire system is prevented from worsening. Rocket nose cone, fuselage and fin structures were determined by optimizing by aerodynamic analysis. A mechanical spring mechanism and servo motors were used as the main and drag parachute recovery system,” the project manager emphasized that all tests were meticulously performed.

Our Rocket Has a Unique Value

It was remarked that our rocket has a unique value with many features. It was stated that Şahi (Shahi), which was fired with a remote detonator, will be launched from a ramp on a 4 m sigma profile and the planned altitude is 500 meters, but this distance can be increased up to 4 kilometers.

Various details were also provided regarding Şahi’s launch. It was stated that when the desired altitude is reached, the mechanism will disintegrate by the help of electronic circuits and sensors inside the rocket, and the main body will land safely with the help of a parachute. Our rocket which is a solid-propellant rocket and drums up interest for the preparation of all of this fuel in our university’s laboratories, demonstrated its uniqueness as it is the product of a study that can produce its own fuel and successfully completing all its tests.

Prof. Dr. Ulas Caydas and Volkan Akgol conveyed their thanks to DAKA and our university’s Chancellor Prof. Dr. Polat, for supporting this project and informed that the necessary work for the rocket’s launch has been completed. In addition, our chancellor was kind enough to sign on the Şahi (Shahi).
