Our Rector Organized a Press Conference on the Malazgirt Battlefield

While the 'Identification, Historical, and Archaeological Surface Research Project of the Malazgirt Battlefield' continues at full speed, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, held a press conference regarding the matter.

In addition to our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, the conference was attended by Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Rector's Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özalper, Secretary General Harun Demir, the project team, and local and national media representatives.

Prior to the press conference, Rector Alican met with the project team to receive the latest updates and later joined the press members at the conference. Rector Alican first individually introduced himself to all the representatives, engaging in conversations about the University and Muş while accepting congratulations. Then, he provided the press members with an update on the progress of the 'Identification, Historical, and Archaeological Surface Research Project of the Malazgirt Battlefield,' which began four years ago.

Highlighting that this project is a pioneering initiative, Rector Alican expressed his desire for the media to be involved and show support. He emphasized the importance of promoting the project to the people of Muş and the world, stating, 'Protecting the brand of Malazgirt belongs to all of us, and creating awareness is our duty.' Rector Alican also drew attention to the potential of turning Malazgirt into a tourism center once the project reaches the desired level, noting that the region is a treasure trove filled with ancient relics, mounds, and churches.

Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Adnan Çevik highlighted that this study is the first archaeological work of such scope and magnitude within the borders of Muş. He stated, 'As we travel and explore, we witness magnificent historical traces from every period.' He concluded his speech by stating that under Rector Alican's leadership, the work will continue, and once the region becomes visible, it will experience tremendous growth in tourism both domestically and internationally. Çevik ended his speech by saying, 'Our aim is to make this place a new Çanakkale,' referring to a significant historical site in Turkey.
