November 10 Event from Historical Research Society

The anniversary of the passing of the founder of our Republic, Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was commemorated with a meaningful seminar organized by our University's History Research Society.

The seminar, titled "Atatürk's Last Days," featured a speech by the Head of the History Department, Prof. Dr. Sabit Duman. Coordinated by Dr. Assist. Prof. Gülbin Fırat Onat from the same department, the seminar took place in Amphitheater 106 of the Aziz Sancar Lecture Halls. In attendance were Advisor to the Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atike Yılmaz, faculty members from the History Department and various administrative staff from different units of our University, along with students from various departments, particularly the History Department.

Prof. Dr. Sabit Duman began with a general assessment of Turkey's founding process from the declaration of the Republic to the 1930s. He then delved into the domestic political issues during the last period of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's presidency, addressing disputes, especially in the economic sector, among the state authorities. He summarized the signs of Atatürk's declining health in 1938 and the process of diagnosing his illness. In this context, he discussed the dietary restrictions and alternative medical practices applied to Atatürk by his doctors in his daily life. Providing information about Atatürk's material legacy and its distribution among his close associates, Prof. Dr. Duman concluded by evaluating the current speculative comments regarding the exact time of Atatürk's passing.

At the end of the seminar, the President of the History Research Society, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, expressed gratitude to Prof. Duman and all participants.
