Medicinal Aromatic Plants Planted in Our Complex

103 kinds of medicinal and aromatic plant seeds were planted in the greenhouse area in our complex with the cooperation of MAUN Faculty of Applied Sciences and Muş Tulip Application and Research Center Directorate.

MAUN Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, MAUN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Muş Tulip Application and Research Center Director, Asst. Prof. Ahmet Yenikalaycı, and faculty members and students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences participated in planting seeds.

Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat stated to the press that "We have accomplished very important works in the field of agriculture at the university. Our main aim here is to draw attention to agricultural activities in Muş and to bring together the Muş Plain, one of the most important plains of Turkey, with modern agriculture; Our aim is to grow medicinal and aromatic plants and to bring plants that we can consider as endemic species in our province to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry." Our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karadağ, on the other hand, talked about the plant studies at our University and stated that over 100 medicinal and aromatic plant studies such as thyme, mint, aniseed, sage, basil, fennel, tipton weed, bee balm, clove, echinacea, black cumin, and blessed thistle are being carried out.

 

Intensive and Comprehensive Studies are Underway

 

Talking about the current studies on the subject, Muş Tulip Application and Research Center Director Asst. Prof. Yenikalaycı stated that "Muş Province Endemic Plants" and "Variety Development through Selection Breeding in Muş Tulip" projects are being carried out and significant progress has been made in the projects. Emphasizing that the first tulip bulbs were successfully obtained from Muş Tulip flower organs through organogenesis last year, Yenikalaycı also gave the good news about the "Book of Endemic Plants of Muş Province" and added that this book prepared by the Center is a first for Muş.
