MAUN Technical Team Has Completed The Damage Assessment Work
The technical team of our university, which was sent to the region in coordination with Fırat University, to examine the buildings after the earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 in Kahramanmaraş, Pazarcık on February 6 and 7.6 in the center of Elbistan on February 7, completed their task and returned.
Our technical team, consisting of Research Assistant Asaf Asatekin, Technician Murat Ulu, Turgay Akpınar, Halil Biçici and Durmuş Ali Dede, responsible for the "Structural Health and Earthquake Safety Determination Unit" within the Central Research Laboratories Application and Research Center, conducted joint studies with Fırat University in the collection of iron and concrete samples, expert examination of buildings in the earthquake zone.
After returning from the region, the team met with our Rector, Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, and gave information about their studies and investigations. Research Assistant Asatekin, who is responsible for the team, stated that they are working in harmony with Fırat University and Malatya Public Prosecutor's Office and emphasized the importance of being in the field with experienced and fully equipped equipment. Asatekin said that the destroyed structures were built without adhering to the regulations, and poor quality, deficient and unsuitable materials were used.
