MAUN Rector Participates in the 260th Interuniversity Council Meeting
Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican attended the 260th Interuniversity Council Meeting held at the Higher Education Council (YÖK).
In his opening remarks, YÖK President Erol Özvar highlighted that most universities have commenced classes for the 2024-2025 academic year, underscoring the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure the smooth continuation of academic activities.
Özvar placed particular emphasis on the universities in provinces impacted by the February 6 earthquakes, urging special care for students from these regions. He called for close attention to be given to students' accommodation and other challenges, commending the dedication of university administrators, academic, and administrative staff in these areas. “YÖK has always stood by our universities, and we will continue to do so,” he said.
Furthermore, Özvar announced that the 73 new digital and artificial intelligence-based associate and undergraduate programs launched this year have achieved 100% enrollment. He urged university administrations to prioritize maintaining high quality standards in these programs.
During the meeting, it was revealed that with the new academic year, evening programs at state universities have been discontinued, and quotas for programs with weaker job market relevance have been reduced. Özvar also encouraged rectors to increase the number of programs eligible to display the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TYÇ) logo, currently awarded to 898 programs.
He concluded by noting the strong interest from top-performing students in Azerbaijan for the newly launched programs at the Turkey-Azerbaijan University, affirming that this model, which supports the internationalization of Turkish higher education, will soon expand to other regions.
