MAUN Rector Attended the 2nd National Wild Animal Congress
Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat attended the 2nd National Wild Animal Congress organized by Van Yüzüncü Yıl University.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci attended the opening of the congress via video conference. MAUN Rector Prof. Dr.Fethi Ahmet Polat, Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Şevli, Rector of Bitlis Eren University Prof. Dr. Necmettin Elmastaş, Rector of Hakkari University Prof. Dr. Ömer Pakiş, Rector of Siirt University Prof. Dr. Nihat Şindak, many academics and members of the press attended the congress.
Making a speech at the opening of the Congress, Minister Kirişci said: "Turkey, when evaluated on a world scale, has a very important position with its biodiversity." Kirişci stated that ecological environments of wildlife have been damaged due to climate change, forest fire and environmental pollution, and that approximately 1 million species are at risk of extinction due to these negativities. Underlining that these losses in wildlife will adversely affect human life over time, Kirişci said, "Therefore, steps to be taken for the protection and sustainability of wildlife are an obligation and responsibility beyond choice."
Rector Polat, who made a statement on the subject, stated that this congress is very important in terms of making positive contributions to wildlife and said, "The decisions to be taken at this congress will shed light on the studies to be made on the protection and management of wildlife."
The congress came to an end after the prizes were given to the winners of the painting competition between primary, secondary and high schools held throughout the province regarding wildlife.
