MAUN Faculty Member Invited to Kennedy Space Centre!
Our University Vocational School of Technical Sciences (TBMYO), Food Processing Department faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Harun Önlü was invited to the Kennedy Space Centre in the United States of America to carry out the experimental preparations of the "PRANET" project, which is one of the 13 experiments that Turkey's first space traveller Astronaut Alper Gezeravcı will do in space and which is carried out by Muş Science and Art Centre.
The "PRANET" experiment, prepared by Muş Science and Art Centre students Zeynep Nehir Çamlıca, Dilşah İmran Avcı and Baver Bedirhan Bingöl under the supervision of their teacher Birsen Geçer and titled "Antibacterial Effect of Propolis", will investigate the effect of propolis on bacteria in microgravity. The antibacterial effect of propolis will be tested with the control and experimental groups, including Prof. Dr. Harun Önlü, and it will be compared whether the results are similar to the gravity environment.
Representing our university in the experimental team, Asst. Prof. Dr. Harun Önlü stated the following in his statement on the subject: "It is a great source of pride for us that the project of Muş Science and Art Centre students from our province is among the studies selected as one of the 13 experiments to be applied in the first manned space mission mission, which will be a first for our country. In this context, I congratulate Muş BİLSEM students and their project advisor Birsen Geçer. The participation of Muş BİLSEM students in this important project shows that young scientists of our country and our region can carry out successful projects in the international arena. The results of the experiment can inspire similar studies in the future by illuminating new perspectives between the food industry and space sciences. I would like to thank TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin for his support in the process of being included in the experimental team."
Making a statement on the subject, TBMYO Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Fatih Şevgin said, "TBMYO faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Harun Önlü, who was invited to Kennedy Space Centre as part of an important project in Turkey's space studies, is a source of great pride for both our institution and our country. We congratulate Dr. Harun Önlü, who we believe will exhibit an outstanding performance by taking part in the experimental team of this special project. I congratulate our lecturer Harun Önlü and wish him a successful process during the experiment phase."
Dr. Şevgin continued his statement, "The results to be obtained with the "PRANET" project of Muş BİLSEM students can make important contributions to the world of science. I congratulate our students and their project advisor Birsen Geçer for their success and I wish them to maintain the same success graph in their future projects.
