Harvest Ceremony for Buckwheat Cultivation and Extension Project in Muş Ecology

The harvest programme of the project "Buckwheat Cultivation and Propagation in Muş Ecology" supported by the Special Provincial Administration under the leadership of our university was held at Yıldız Alparslan Agricultural Enterprise.

Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ stated in his speech that the project supported by the Special Provincial Administration is carried out in partnership and cooperation with Muş Municipality, Muş Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Bulanık and Varto District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Muş Celiac Association, Konya Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute.  Speaking about the project, Karadağ continued his words as follows: "Within the scope of this project, planting was carried out on 16 May 2023 in a total area of 50 decares and seed harvests were successfully harvested 3 months later. Buckwheat is one of the rare plants used in gluten-free foods consumed by celiac patients and in the nutrition of cattle, sheep and poultry. The expansion of buckwheat production in economic and social terms will contribute to both the national economy and the agricultural economy of Muş province. In addition, it will be effective in reducing migration from village to city as an alternative source of livelihood for farmers."

Speaking at the programme, Rector Alican stated that this project, which continues under the leadership of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and in cooperation with 6 institutions, is a first for Muş and expressed his satisfaction that product patterns with high added value are being brought to our region, especially Muş. Rector Alican said, "Our Faculty of Applied Sciences has carried out very important works for Muş, with an irrigation project to be completed at the end of August, the Muş Plain will be completely flooded and irrigated agricultural activities will start in the Muş Plain as of next autumn. Therefore, we will do our best for the development of both agriculture and animal husbandry in Muş within the Faculty. Our faculty will make the necessary preparations in this regard and will actively contribute to the process."

After the greeting speeches, the programme ended with buckwheat harvest.
