Dr. Emine Ulu-Aslan will continue her studies at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

She works in the Department of Turkish Education at our university's Faculty of Education and has been awarded the TÜBİTAK 2219 Postdoctoral Research Scholarship to go to Italy.

Dr. Ulu-Aslan completed her PhD in the Department of Turkish Education at Yıldız Technical University on children's media, critical thinking, and media literacy. As part of the TÜBİTAK 2219 Postdoctoral Research Scholarship program, she will continue her research on "The Use of Alternative Texts in Education and 21st Century Skills" in Italy for 12 months.

In her statement regarding the research, Ulu-Aslan stated that the aim is to determine the effects of using texts that include popular culture and interdisciplinary areas, as opposed to traditional texts, with postmodern narrative techniques on 21st century skills in the education of children aged 10-12. She also noted that "Technological developments that have been increasing in power since the second half of the 20th century have also affected the state of all literacy research. The electronic communication and digital text era has drawn the definition of literacy towards a more complex set of skills, a constantly changing, expanding, and evolving level of meaning, rather than a letter-based code drawing system. The fact that these skills, which are also defined as 21st century skills, form the lifelong learning area and foundation for every individual, has necessitated the consideration of alternative forms of education."
