Bee Products Structure and Usage Areas Seminar was organized at our university

The seminar organized by the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Directorate of Beekeeping Application and Research Center at Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Zaim Conference Hall of our University was attended by Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Vice Rector of our University and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Eşref Süne, Deputy Director of Muş Provincial Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Lecturer Dilek Kabakcı, Beekeeping Application and Research Center Director Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Nuray Şahinler, Faculty Member of Uşak Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Lecturers, Members of Muş and Bingöl Beekeeping Breeders Association, Producers and Students attended the seminar.

The opening speeches of the seminar were made by Prof. Dr. Karadağ and Eşref Süne, Deputy Director of Muş Provincial Agriculture and Forestry. In his speech, Prof. Karadağ said, "The number of beekeeping enterprises in Muş province is 366, the number of hives is 59,219 and the amount of honey production is 446 tons. With the guided project supported by our Rectorate by the Faculty of Applied Sciences of our University, it has been determined that there are 94 endemic plant species. This plant diversity is very important for beekeeping. Beekeeping Application and Research Center was officially established on May 27, 2021 within Muş Alparslan University and continues its duty with 1 Director and 2 Assistant Directors. For the first time in our university, an apiary was established for honey bee breeding studies. In this context, beekeeping activities were started with a total of 20 colonies with 10 bee frames in each colony and 30 hives have been reached as of now. At the same time, Caucasian and Buckfast (Belfast) bee breed studies were carried out for the first time. In addition, 30 more hives will be added in the spring and a total of 60 hives will be realized. An application has been made to the Turkish Patent Office for Trademark Registration for bees and bee products. In the near future, studies to create a laboratory for Queen Bee Production within our University will also be started. For the first time, bee poison production was also realized within our university. Prof. Karadağ thanked  Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican for their support in beekeeping.
