A Media Design Workshop Established at Our University

A design workshop, which is found in only a few universities and aims to make classes such as video editing and montage, digital design, digital photo processing techniques, typesetting-layout, and graphic animation more efficient and to enable students to start their careers with experience, has been established in the Department of Visual-Audio Techniques and Media Production at our University's School of Social Sciences.

The opening of the workshop, which has 24 high-end computers, a sound system, and a smart board, was attended by our Rector Prof. Mustafa Alican, the Director of the School and Rector's Advisor Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özalper, academic staff, students, and members of the press.

Rector Alican, who opened the Media Design Workshop and attended the first class, said, "We believe that this workshop, equipped with high-end computers and technological facilities to keep up with the constantly evolving technology, will make important contributions to our students' education and prepare them for the working life."

Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özalper, the Director of the School of Social Sciences and Rector's Advisor, expressed that the establishment of the workshop had been on their agenda for a long time and they had accelerated the efforts to establish the workshop. He said, "Establishing the workshop was essential to keep track of current technology and prepare our students for real working life. In this context, by consulting with our department instructors, we took the first step to establish the workshop. With the approval of our esteemed Rector Prof.  Mustafa Alican, we overcame the process, which had been postponed several times due to the financial burden it would bring."

Özalper stated that the workshop, established in line with the current student capacity, is sufficient for the classes and training conducted in the department. He said, "We will keep our workshop up-to-date with purpose-specific high-end computers by tracking technology. Such a workshop was essential for this department, which aims to train qualified personnel to work in the media sector, considered as the fourth power. We are making efforts to manage the processes with an understanding that is aware of the close relationship between infrastructure and technology with education. I would like to express my gratitude to our esteemed Rector Prof. Mustafa Alican for his support in the establishment of our workshop, and I sincerely congratulate our department instructors, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Demirel, Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Adıgüzel, and Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Çiçek, who have put in intensive effort during the establishment process. I wish our workshop to be beneficial for our university."

Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Çiçek, who actively contributed to the establishment of the Media Design Workshop, said, "The continuous development of the software side of digital image processing technology renders old technology hardware unusable by receiving new updates. In order to prepare our students for the working life and to provide them with the opportunity to use digital image processing software used in the industry throughout their education, we requested up-to-date and powerful hardware from our university management, and this request was fulfilled in a very short time."

Çiçek, who thanked everyone involved in the establishment of the Media Design Workshop, said, "Establishing such a workshop is costly and laborious. I thank our Rector Prof.  Mustafa Alican, our Director of the School of Social Sciences and Rector's Advisor Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özalper, and all my colleagues for the establishment of the workshop, and I wish it to be beneficial for our university."
