9th International Oncology Days Launched

The 9th International “Growing Plant” Oncology Days, hosted by our university and organized by the Young Accumulation Association, launched with a moment of silence and the opening speeches after the National Anthem at the 1071 Congress and Culture Center. This year, the event, which was featured with the theme of “Fighting Women’s Cancer”, will last for two days. New developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment will be discussed in the program.

In addition to our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, Muş Mayor Feyat Asya, Journalist/Author Ümit Sezgin, Onko-Day Association President Füsun Önen, Lecturer Nevin Çolak, anti-cancer associations, international nongovernmental organizations, scientists, experts, cancer patients, young people from 10 different countries, students and members of the press participated in the event organized to raise awareness against cancer.

Young Accumulation Association President Salih Yüce commenced his speech by thanking all the guests who participated in the program. Yüce stated that the most significant aim of the association is to inform the society, especially the youth, about cancer, and to explain the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Yüce pointed out that cancer, which will be rank first among the causes of death in the coming years according to the data of the Ministry of Health, is a multifaceted health problem and emphasized the importance of families, youth, and nongovernmental organizations taking an active role in the fight against cancer.

Our Rector Polat, in his speech, stated that they wholeheartedly support the valuable work of the Young Accumulation Association and they will continue to do so. Polat said, “We are informed about some issues that we are deaf and blind, through these events. For this reason, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this program, especially Prof. Dr. Toker Ergüder, Program Manager of the World Health Organization Turkey Office.” In his speech, Polat also underlined that this event would be very beneficial for both the people of Muş and the students studying in the field of health at our university.

Muş Mayor Feyat Asya expressed his satisfaction with the fact that such an event was held in Muş and said, “I would like to thank everyone who organized this program that will be effective in forming an opinion that cancer is a vincible disease.”

After the plaque presentation, the program continued with simultaneous workshops and general evaluations. The program ended with the awareness walk that Rector Polat also attended.
