The 'Silage Soybeans Promising Hope for Muş Plain' Project Continues Its Efforts

The project 'Silage Soybeans Promising Hope for Muş Plain' was launched in collaboration between Muş Alparslan University Faculty of Applied Sciences, Muş Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and Adana East Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute Directorate.

In the village of Çöğürlü, connected to the center of Muş, soybeans for silage were planted on a total of 15 decares, with 7.5 decares in Çöğürlü village and 7.5 decares in Özdilek village in Muş Center. In the planting area of silage soybeans, which were planted for the first time within the scope of the project in Muş Center Çöğürlü Village, our University's Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahir Özkurt, and Res. Asst. Yasir Tufan were present. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, who made statements about the project supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Education and Publication Department, stated that Muş is one of Turkey's important provinces in terms of livestock and said, "Muş Alparslan University Faculty of Applied Sciences continues to bring new products to Muş and the region. On May 29, 2023, silage soybeans were planted in an area of 15 decares in Çöğürlü and Özdilek villages in Muş Center, with 10 kg per decares and 70 cm row spacing. It was determined that the plants adapted perfectly to the Muş ecology by exceeding 170 cm in height after a 3-month vegetation period in this project, where Yeşilsoy and Yemsoy soybean varieties, developed as silage for the first time in Turkey by the East Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute Directorate, were used, and high yields are expected to be obtained. Muş is one of the important provinces in Turkey in terms of livestock, and more than 70% of the expenses in this field are composed of feed costs. Therefore, silage soybeans can be an important product to close the roughage deficit in this region." Karadağ expressed his hope that this study, which is conducted for the first time in Muş, would be auspicious for Muş in particular and for our region's agriculture and producers in general and thanked our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican for his support in the implementation of the project.
