Occupational Health and Safety Training and First Aid Training were Provided to Technical Sciences Vocational School Students
The Basic Occupational Health and Safety Training and First Aid Training program organized in cooperation with the Vocational School of Technical Sciences (TBMYO) and Vangölü Electricity Distribution Company (VEDAŞ) attracted great attention. The program was organized at Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Zaim Conference Hall.
VEDAŞ Provincial Director Suat Coşar, VEDAŞ Workplace Doctor Dr. Hamit Kasap, VEDAŞ Occupational Health and Safety Unit Supervisor Emrah Sayılğan, VEDAŞ Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Mehmet Salih Timur participated to give training, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, Rector Advisor Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Özalper, General Secretary Harun Demir, TBMYO Department Heads, academic staff and students also attended.
In the opening speech of the program, Prof. Dr. Alican thanked VEDAŞ Provincial Director and his team, and said, "Today, we came together with you as part of the Basic Occupational Health and Safety and First Aid Training program organized for the students of Vocational School of Technical Sciences. We would like to thank VEDAŞ Provincial Manager Suat Çoşar and his work team for honouring us with their contributions and participation in the realization of this valuable program. I would like to express my congratulations, especially to our TBMYO Director Assist. Prof. Fatih Şevgin, who pioneered the organization of this training, and to our academic staff and students who participated in the program."
Prof. Dr. Alican emphasized the importance of increasing occupational health and safety awareness today and said, "Raising awareness of occupational health and safety in today's working life is of critical importance for the safety and health of individuals working in every sector. This training program aims to provide our students with basic information on these important issues. Before stepping into business life, you need to be knowledgeable and equipped on these issues, not only for your safety, but also for the safety of the people around you. In addition to being a qualified professional in the field of technical sciences, you should also be aware of your responsibilities regarding occupational health and safety. You will fulfil it in this way."
Program coordinator and TBMYO Director Assist Prof. Fatih Şevgin touched upon the importance of the training organized to reduce work accidents in our country in his speech. Prof. Dr. Şevgin said, "Sadly, our country is in a prominent position in the world in terms of work accidents. In our country, approximately 5 people lose their lives every day due to work accidents. In order to prevent this negative situation, Law No. 6331 was published in 2012 and with a proactive approach "The aim is to eliminate dangerous situations or make them less dangerous. The proactive approach aims to eliminate situations that cause accidents by performing risk analysis in workplaces. This training aims to raise awareness among you, our guests, about occupational health and safety."
Pointing out that we often encounter news of accidents in workplaces in daily life, Assist. Prof. Şevgin said, “Another important issue is first aid. In daily life, we often encounter news of accidents. These accidents may include traffic accidents, heart attacks, or emergencies such as food or objects getting stuck in the windpipe. First aid knowledge can increase the chances of survival when we encounter such situations. That's why we planned these trainings and got support from our expert friends. I would like to thank especially our rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa ALİCAN, our expert friends who provided the training in cooperation with VEDAŞ, and our valued guests who participated, for their support.”
Within the scope of the training program, TBMYO students were informed by Dr. Hamit Kasap who gave information about the first aid practices to be applied during the treatment of injured people after accidents that may occur in the workplace, Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Mehmet Salih Timur gave basic information about the importance of occupational health and safety in working life and basic information.
The program ended after the students’ questions directed to the instructors were answered.
