MAUN Established Scientific Trials for Flax and Sesame in the Research and Experimental Fields in Muş for the First Time
For the first time in Muş, scientific trials for flax and sesame were established in MAUN’s research and experimental fields.
The examinations conducted during these scientific trials were attended by Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, along with Asst. Prof. Ahmet Yenikalaycı, Instructor Nurettin Baran, Instructor Nazlı Aybar Yalınkılıç, and Instructor Ali Bayram from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
Asst. Prof. Ahmet Yenikalaycı, in charge of these trials at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, stated that a total of 20 different plant lines, including 13 lines imported from abroad and 7 lines developed domestically, were planted on May 9, 2023, in the flax trials.
Asst. Prof. Yenikalaycı also mentioned that in his master's thesis work, under the Muş conditions, various sesame varieties with different planting times would be examined for their effects on yield and quality, and 10 domestically developed sesame varieties would be tested for their planting times.
Regarding the subject, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karadağ, emphasized that in Muş Plain, which has an area of 165,000 hectares and is the third largest contiguous plain in our country, studies on the most suitable industrial plants would be accelerated, and the most appropriate varieties and lines would be determined. Prof. Dr. Karadağ stated that with these scientific studies, carried out for the first time in Muş, they aim to identify flax varieties and lines with appropriate row spacing and distance, high oil and seed yield, as well as suitable sesame varieties and planting times in accordance with Muş conditions, and they will provide recommendations to the producers. He conveyed his best wishes for the success of these scientific studies, which are thought to bring significant economic income to our region, Muş, and our country's scientists and producers.
Prof. Dr. Karadağ concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican for his support to the studies conducted within the scope of the subject.
